Staff profile / Annie Grove-White

Senior Lecturer

Email agwhite@uwic.ac.uk

Having graduated from Reading University in Typography & Graphic Communication, she became a freelance designer with a commitment to the voluntary sector, working with such organisations as Women's Aid, Shelter Cymru and Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament among many others.

She entered Higher Education as a lecturer in Historical and Critical Studies and went on to undertake an MA in Design History and Theory, with a particular interest in gender and consumption. She has published papers based on her final piece of research in this area. Her passion for education and graphic communication continues, however, and she currently teaches in both theory and practice - with a particular interest in typography and the power of communication. Her research activities span different areas: from pedagogic research into students' experience and understandings of the relationship between theory and practice, to staff perceptions of the use and development of IT in art and design (LTSN supported project).

In 2007 she co-ordinated an international and cross-disciplinary conference titled 'Creativity or Conformity: building cultures of creativity in Higher Education' (www.creativityconference07.org) and has produced a DVD of the proceedings. Annie’s research interests are in the area of learning & teaching and emotional intelligence.

Annie is currently working with colleague, Ruth Dineen, in undertaking a feasibility study into establishing a Welsh Centre for creative teaching and teaching creativity.

Annie Grove-White is a member of the Teaching Creativity & Creative Teaching Research group(http://www.wirad.ac.uk/research-themes/creative-teaching-and-teaching-creativity/), part of  the Design: Policy & Practice research theme within WIRAD.
