Ruth is a graduate of Reading University's BA in Typography & Graphic Communication with an interest in teaching, which led to a B.Ed in Art & English, and a fascination with gender roles, which resulted in an MSc in Women's Studies.
Ruth is currently Principal Lecturer on the BA Graphic Communication programme with particular responsibility for typography and word-based graphics. She has considerable teaching and external examining experience across a number of HE institutions. She has designed and run two BA courses and co-ordinated an MA Matrix structure for eight new art & design pathways within the School.
She is a member of the CSAD Research Principal’s Group. Her main research field is in the promotion of creativity in education internationally. Currently, with her colleague Annie Grove White, she is looking in to the feasibility of setting up a Welsh centre for creative teaching and teaching creativity in art & design. She has undertaken a comparative project with colleagues from Sichuan Institute in China where she is an Honorary Professor, and is a member of the Academic Board of Mianyang College of Art and Music in Sichuan Province, China. She instigated the HEA 'Creativity or Conformity' conference which UWIC hosted in January 2007.
