Translating sustainable design into sustainable construction
Call for papers
Detail Design in Architecture′s aim is to provide a forum for debate and the exchange of knowledge in relation to the technology, design and science of architecture and the links between the design process and the construction process. During the eighth conference of Detail Design in Architecture, the focus will be the interface between design and construction from a sustainable perspective.
Papers are invited that address the challenges of translating sustainable design ideals into sustainable buildings and artefacts. We welcome theoretical and practical contributions to this challenge. Papers in the following themes are welcomed:
- Case studies discussing lessons learnt from the design process, design techniques and translation from design to construction;
- Use of software applications to assist detailed design and the translation to construction detailing;
- Design and manufacture of building components and the connectivity of joints;
- Design for reuse;
- Design for efficient and cost effective maintenance;
- Design for increased thermal performance;
- Materials;
- Detailing the use of natural materials for building components and building systems, such as hemp, hempcrete, strawbale and rammed earth;
- Design for increased moisture and sound performance;
- Detailed design to consider air tightness.
