Professional development

We have an impressive record of graduate employment. Our students have found jobs in top London agencies such as Carter Wong Tomlinson, The Partners, Together and Enterprise IG, in major publishing houses such as Penguin, Walker Books and Dorling Kindersley, and in design companies across the country.

This success is ensured in part by the Year Three Professional practice module which includes lectures by professional designers and commercial studio projects. These help you learn to work with clients, to cost and schedule a job, to take work through to print and, most importantly, to persuade a client that your ideas should be chosen.

Each year we take students up to the inspirational 4-Designers Conference, a 3-day event in London for graphic design students from UK and abroad

We keep in close touch with the industry through our membership of the international Designers and Art Directors Association (D&AD) – our students exhibit at their UK graduate shows in London each year and have, in the past, won the ‘Best in Show’ award. And each year we take students up to the inspirational 4-Designers Conference, a 3-day event in London for graphic design students from UK and abroad.

The programme offers a number of opportunities to complement and enrich your studies. Compulsory occasional educational trips are planned every year with costs often partly met by the programme but a contribution by students to transportation and accommodation costs (if an overnight stay is involved) is usually required. Generally there are no more than two educational trips (that require student contributions) arranged during each year of study.

The highly-successful Cardiff Design Week, and more recent Cardiff design-lecture series, was initiated by Olwen Moseley who was also voted as one of the top 50 names in design by Design Week. Wendy Keay-Bright has been nominated for a series of awards for her interactive multi-media work with autistic children.
